Professional Background
I have worked as a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer for established health clubs, such as Fitness First and Esporta. I currently work from Dulwich College Sports Club in SE21. My extensive experience and specific areas of knowledge include:
I also have experience with the following endurance training-based activities; recreational cycling, cycle sportive events, road cycle racing, criteriums, track cycle racing, middle distance running (5km and 10km), Duathlon and road cycle training,(teaching others to cycle safely on public roads).
The Beginning
I began working out 30 years ago with a basic weight set and home-made wooden bench, alongside my friend in his back yard and a very humble home gym. This was the first step in a long journey of discovery and the never-ending pursuit of knowledge. In the ’80s, before the Internet, one of the only ways to learn about training came from experienced lifters, only found in hardcore sweat and iron gyms (which were few).
I can help you to fast track your training with informed decisions, using proven training methods stemming from a scientific basis.
The keys to progress were closely guarded secrets, rarely shared with novices who were expected to pay their dues, learn the hard way and maybe take years to see results. Today, the opposite problem is a reality; an overwhelming amount of information is available to anybody with Internet access and there seems to be conflicting information everywhere.
My Philosophy
My approach to training is heavily influenced by many years of personal experience. I use training methods which pay respect to well-established principles of training. These were devised many years ago by great pioneers involved in the study of weight training and in the development of power athletes in sport, particularly the sports of Olympic Lifting and Powerlifting.
People such as Yuri Verkhoshansky and Prof. Dr Vladimir M. Zatsiorsky laid the foundations for strength training. Innovative developments of modern-day strength coaches such as; Louie Simmons, Dan John and the late Charles Poliquin, have all strongly influenced training methods in the mainstream.
Most modern training methods can be traced back to the early origins of the pioneers. I take interest in new findings with sound scientific evidence and solid research, which I can apply to further improve my methods.
Methodology
Sessions are planned, with clear objectives and long-term goals established at the outset with the client. I believe that following a well-defined path, with clear goals and targets will lead to your success in the most effective and time efficient way. Determination, hard work and commitment are required to reach your goals. If you have these personal attributes and can apply yourself with complete dedication, then success will be the result.
